SCIENCE IN THE NEWS Science in the news is a weekly assignment that has students reading a science article of their choice and writing a summary of that article. There is 2 due per week every WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY for the 2nd quarter.
Below are the guidelines for science in the news and locations you can find articles. Here is a template to help you complete it:
GUIDELINES You will write a summary of each article, with a minimum of 5 sentences
Guidelines:
1stSentence- “Title of Article”, date it was printed, and where you got the article from
2nd Sentence-6th Sentence- Summary of the article using the 5 W’s and H format. Remember that not all the questions may be found in the article:
Who?= Who conducted the research or made the discovery? Who was the focus of the article? Who created/invented something new in this article?
What?= What is the topic of the article? What was the topic of the research? What was discovered? What was created/invented?
Where?= Where did the event occur? Where did the research/discovery/invention take place?
When?= When did the event/research occur? When was it created? When was it discovered? When is it most important?
Why?= Why did the event/research occur? Why was the item created? Why were they looking for what was discovered?
How?= How is the research/discovery/invention important to science? How does this affect us and our understanding of science (Think about the big picture)?
~Where do I Find Articles?- All articles must be within the last year and a minimum of 5 paragraphs
Articles may be from any news source as long as it is a SCIENCE article
